There’s something about spin classes that can be a little intimidating. Maybe it’s the high energy music playing throughout the studio. Could be the fact that some participants seem to know what they’re doing, which can make newbies a little nervous.
Of course, it could just be that anyone you’ve ever talked to about spinning says the same thing:
It. Is. So. Hard.
But hey–most workouts are supposed to be hard, remember? Ramping up the intensity during exercise not only accelerates your results, but it almost always leaves you feeling more satisfied with your efforts. To know that you’ve worked your butt off during a workout simply because you know it’s good for your body is a great, great feeling.
Here at the Harbor Square Athletic Club, we welcome any member to come check out one of our spin classes. These are 60-minute workouts that are 100% guided by an instructor, suitable for all fitness levels, and held in an approachable environment that allows you to set your own intensity. After all, you know your body better than we do. A cycle class is the perfect place to safely push yourself, knowing that you can always back off when you need to…just don’t be surprised if you start having so much fun that you won’t want to back off!

5 Reasons Why You Should Try A Spin Class
No, you don’t have to be a competitive cyclist-in-training to feel at home in one of our Studio Cycling classes. We guarantee that it’ll be one of the most challenging, satisfying, and fun workout experiences you’ll ever have. Still not completely convinced yet? Check out these top 5 reasons why everyone from celebrities to your neighbor next door loves spin classes:
1. Spin classes are variable (and interesting) by design.
Workouts are specially created to target multiple systems in the body, including your cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and even metabolic systems. To challenge all these different areas, you’ll be guided to go from low to high intensity, low to high resistance, slow to fast, and stand up/sit down, and so on. In other words, you’ll stay interested in the class because of all the variety of movement. Sounds a lot better than churning away on an elliptical all the time, doesn’t it?
When mixed in with consistent resistance training, high-intensity spin classes and other interval-style cardio workouts are an excellent way to burn calories and shed excess body fat.
3. Spinning is safe for people of all ages and physical abilities.
It’s super low impact, easy to modify, and easy to learn, too. Classes are supervised by a trained instructor from start to finish, so you’ll have the support you need to know that your form is correct.
4. Spinning can help you develop both lower body and upper body strength.
Yes, your legs will be super sore (in a good way) and get strong, lean, enduring, and powerful. But our spin instructors are also sure to work in movements that will target your shoulders and upper body, too so that you’ll leave feeling like you just got a whole body workout.
5 Spinning is fun!
Our Studio Cycle classes have awesome music, tons of people, and a great atmosphere. When it comes to working out, there’s nothing better than sweating and “suffering” together as a group.
