How many diet crazes can you name? A few come to mind for me: the cabbage soup diet, the Atkins diet and the Paleo diet. • eating fatOlive oil: While you should be careful of overindulgence, this is one time when it’s okay to eat fat! Lots of research shows that olive oil helps reduce your risk of various chronic diseases and elevates the antioxidants you can take in from sautéed veggies (vs. boiled veggies). Opt for extra-virgin olive oil to avoid the level of processing in other varieties.
  • Fish: Your brain should be reason enough to eat fat! Fish is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain function. Aim for at least 8 ounces a week to ensure anti-inflammatory benefits, too!
  • Avocados: Guacamole anyone? This superfood has anti-inflammatory properties and can assist with vitamin absorption. Just be mindful of portions (an average avocado is approximately 230-240 calories).
  • Nuts: Choose raw when shopping for this healthy fat. Nuts are a fantastic snack, easy to transport and come in a lot of varieties. They also contain significant amounts of amino acids, protein and Vitamin E.
